Soil

Soil is a  very important part of our planet.The 1 st layer is grass then the second layer is humus then the third layer is top soil then sub soil then rock particles then bed rock.Soil is made up of a mixture of air,water,humus,sand,clay and silt.You can not dig down to the bed rock with a spade.You need good soil for plants to grow good and healthy.

Rocks

Limestone,Marble,Sandstone,Granite,Chalk and Slate are all types of rocks.Earth is made up of rocks.There are many diffrent types of rocks buried underneath the earth surface.Rocks can be hard or soft.A geolgist studies rocks  and minerals .They can be fossils in rocks.Fossils are made of insects.They can be all shapes and sizes and colours.They can be smooth or hard.

The Normans

The Normans came from Normandy in France. In 1066, William of Normandy, sailed to England with a large army and defeated the King of England at the Battle of  Hastings.HenryII became the Norman king.Dermot went to France and asked HenryII for help.HenryII agreed and Dermot received help from a Norman lord named Richard de Clare. Strongbow wanted the kingdom of Leinster when Dermot died and also to marry Dermots  daughter, Aoife. Dermot and Strongbow  won back Leinster. In 1171, when Dermot died, Strongbow became the King of Leinster.  HenryII began to worry that Strongbow was becoming too powerful. He sent Hugh de Lacy to be his deputy in Ireland. Dermot Mc Murrough was the King of  Leinster but lost his land to O’ Connor’ king of Connacht.

Electronic car visit

On Thursday, an electric car was brought to our school. We explored and found out about the benefits of an electronic car to the environment. We also found out have much money people could save if they had an electronic car. Electronic cars are the cars of the future. It was great for us to learn about electronic cars and their source of energy as we work towards our second Green School Flag for energy.
